Is It Safe To Skip A Chemo Treatment For Cervical Cancer?
I have stage 1 (with 2 positive nodes) cervical cancer. I ve had 2 surgeries, 4 Chemo treatments and 19 radiation treatments. I have one more chemo treatment to go and I m in tears thinking about it. I don t want to. I ve been sick everyday for the last 4 weeks. They ve given me just about every nausea medication available. I asked if I could skip the last chemo treatment and they said no. Didn t look at my record, just said no because 5 treatments is standard. Will you please tell me how much damage it would cause if I skipped the last chemo treatment? I m so sick I can t convince myself to do another one.
I understand your concern. What treatment regimen has to be instituted is in accordance with the staging of cancer. Hence, you need to undertake the complete course of treatment and cannot compromise. If you skip any part of the treatment, it gives the cancer cells a chance to multiply to recur the illness and also spread to other tissues resulting in complications. Kindly undertake the treatment as prescribed and do the necessary follow-up as advised.
Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further. All the best.
