Is It Safe To Peel The Mole Causing A Scab And Dark Discoloration Around?

I have a mole that is on my chest. It is about 1/4 diameter and slightly raised. I have had it all my life. I had it checked by a dermatologist a few years ago as a precaution. It was normal. This morning I was washing myself with a rag and I peeled the top layer off. It was still partially attached. I peeled it off. It was like a scab on a cut. It was dark brown, and the mole below was lighter brown. Is that normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Yes it is normal, for now keep the region dry and clean and apply a topical antibiotic (e.g. neosporin) over the region to prevent an infection as it is in a region where sweat and dust usually accumulate.

Best wishes.
