Is It Safe To Have Morphine Post Suboxone Withdrawal?

My husband was addicted to prescription drugs and went to a hospital for detox and the Doctor there put him on subxone and he was on it for 7 years until he could not afford to go to the Doctor because he lost his job and had no money to go. He then tried to go off it cold turkey and got bad withdrawals so he went to his primary care physician and he put him on morphine. He takes 2 30gms & 1 60mg a day and has been on this for a year now. I don t think this is right. Can you help me?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Suboxone is Buprenorphine and the drug is a partial opioid agonist. The drug is commonly used in opioid withdrawal to prevent withdrawal symptoms. Once individual becomes stabilised on this drug then gradual dose reduction of this drug can be done to prevent relapse of addiction. He has stopped the drug cold turkey and this has probably resulted in serious withdrawal.

Now he has been prescribed Morphine which is also an opioid drug. Morphine is a highly addicting substance and in my opinion once he become stabilised on this drug then consider reducing the dose of the drug. Try not to give him this drug regularly for long because he will become addicted to opioids again. Consult his doctor for details.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
