Welcome to HCM!
Incomplete data like age, gender, BP, presence of any other disease.
I appreciate your concern regarding the safety of
Losartan.
Losartan is one of the most commonly drug used now a days in the treatment of high BP. Side effects are minimal if compared to other drugs.
Hypotension (can occur after initial doses) mainly in patients on salt restriction, or gastrointestinal fluid loss.
Increase in serum potassium level in patients with kidney disease or diabetes
Dry cough and swelling of the lips are uncommonly seen, if develop you may have to change to alternate drug.
Losaratan is contra indicated during
pregnancy and in patients with narrow kidney artery.
In view of the above mentioned side effects and their association if you do not have any such then it is a safer drug.
The alternate medicine you can think of is
Amlodipine which also reduces the high BP. Kindly consult your doctor for the proper selection of the drug because age, gender, presence of other diseases if any are taken into consideration while selecting a most useful drug with least side effects.
Regards!
