Is It Safe To Give Piriton While On Ibuprofen For Persistent Cough In Children?

Hi my daughter is 3yrs old and has coughed consistently for the past 2hrs since she s gone to bed till she s almost vomited. I have given her ibuprofen at 8pm and after researching other remedies online I have saw people recommending a small dose of piriton to ease the irritation and help the child get peace to rest - I m just wondering if this is a viable option? I have given her a cup of water to have beside her and she has vaporub on her chest, back and feet (with socks on) Thanks

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have persistent cough and you want to give Piriton along with Ibuprofen which is a safe combination to use. Piriton reduces cough but it can cause dry up of secretions which can cause further blockage. I would suggest you to use Montelukast for your child's condition. You should give her steam inhalation. Avoid giving any cold beverages. You should use mist humidifiers in room. Visit pediatrician once if symptoms keeps on persisting and get it examined. get X-ray of chest done for proper evaluation and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
