Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have an 18 year old visitor who has broken her right fibula - apparently a clean break. She has been in a back-slab type cast for a week and is going to be given a fibreglass cast tomorrow. She is from Germany and wants to return home but it is a very long journey from New Zealand and we are not sure if flying is advisable.
Dear patient There is no harm in flying with fracturefibula once it is casted. But take precautions 1. Keep that limb elevated while on travelling to pre cause vent swelling 2. Take sufficient painkiller and anti inflammatory medication with you 3. Keep active distal toe movements 4. Check capillary filling . All the best
