Is It Safe To Fly A Newborn Baby?

my friend is due to have her baby in in the next two weeks, but due to breech position it may be a c-section. Her husband will be emigrating to the USA in 4 weeks, will it be okay for her and baby to travel with him at that time (travelling together at that time means that he can pack up, ship and close down their life in the uk, which will be difficult for her to do with the baby if she leaves at a later date)

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Air travel is not advised in babies before 1 week of age, as frequent changes in cabin pressure may not be tolerated by them. Keep breast feeding during take off and landing to avoid eustachian tube dysfunction and ear pain. Also check with airline before confirming as some have restrictions

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
