Is It Safe To Exercise While Suffering From Pulled Hamstring Muscle?

I run daily around 3-4 miles at 8:00 miles and stretch everyday before and after running. 3 months ago in pulled my right hamstring on the treadmill in the middle of a normal run. Small bruising. I iced it and applied heat after 4 days. Couldn t stretch for 2 weeks. I then got back to running 1 month later. Then last week I pulled it again. 43 year old male. 6 1 , 225lbs. 1) Am I overdoing it for workouts? 2) Can muscle relaxers/prednisone help?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Pulled hamstring muscle needs complete rest for at lest 10 to 15 days with symptomatic medications and multivitamins with folic acid.

If you have stretched your hamstring again then i would say to have milder exercises for daily half an hour.

Also check your vitamin B12 level in blood by doing tests.

Continue to apply ice pack initially and then warm compression.

There will be no role of prednisone steroid here but yes you may take muscle relaxant like mebeverine with pain killers for symptomatic relief.

Consult your family doctor for further help.

Regards,
