Is It Safe To Drink Ginger Tea While Taking Erlotinib?

Is there any problem in drinking ginger tea while taking Erlotinib? My husband has just been experienced a bout of heartburn and it s too late to take Zantac, which has been approved by his doctor. It s also too late to call and get advice for tonight.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Erlotinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It works by helping to stop cancer cells from growing.
It is advised to be taken on an empty stomach once a day, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating a meal or snack.
You should not take proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for gastritis, and hence H2 blocker Zantac has been prescribed.
Certain foods and medications that should be avoided include: grapefruit, grapefruit juice, verapamil, ketoconazole, rifampin, phenytoin and modafanil.
Adverse interaction with ginger tea has not been documented and hence could be consumed, if desired so.
Kindly follow the advise strictly as given by your doctor and seek medical attention promptly in case you experience any undesired effects.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
