Is It Safe To Drink Alcohol With Low Haemoglobin Level?
Hi, my haemoglobin level is 7.7 so as a result I am on iron tablets of 305mg 3 times a day, this is all due to blood loss through my menstral cycle and the growth of a large fibroid. Is there any risk with drinking alcohol over Christmas or should I avoid it?
Alcohol is known to cause liver damage. One of the commonest cause of liver failure and cirrhosis is alcohol abuse. It is important to have all vital organs in normal functioning for adequate and fast formation of hemoglobin.
Alcohol will also affect iron absorption. Low hemoglobin also lead to excessive intoxication with low doses of alcohol. So, it is better to avoid alcohol till your hemoglobin level improve.
