Is It Safe To Continue Relationship With A Person Suffering From Schizophrenia?

I have found myself very fond of a 63 year old child schizophrenic, He is very kind, a gentlemen and well educated. I am well educated and enjoy his company I enjoy his company, I want a friendship with him that is not sexual. He agrees.. Is this possible. I enjoy holding his hand and hugging him. we enjoy holding hand and hugging. I know I love him but I do not want a relationship that envolves marriqe. @yahoo.comSAYS HE WANTS THE SAME THING BUT BEING MENTALLY ILL, CAN I TRUST HIS FEELINGS

Hello welcome to HCM

I can understand your concern. You have said that he is having Schizophrenia. If he has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia then he can be at risk of harming to self or harming to yourself under certain circumstances. If he is not taking any treatment then you can be at risk. He might function normally also but exact course of his mood cant be predicted. I would advise you to remain vigilant for some time and don't expect much. There is no harm in doing friendship with a patient of schizophrenia. A lot of individuals even marry to such patients but at the end you should remain a little cautious while dealing with him. If he is taking proper treatment then there is not much harm.
