Is It Safe To Consume Finasteride Tablets Along With Rogaine And ADD Medication?

I am a 24 year old male diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and have started taking Adderall. I also suffer from androgenic alopecia and am treating my scalp with Rogaine (Minoxidil Topical Solution 5%). So far I am not experiencing any bad effects. However, I read online that consuming Finasteride (such as Propecia) helps to combat hair loss by preventing conversion of testosterone to DHT, and if used along with Minoxidil can speed up hair regrowth. Given my condition, would it be safe to consume Finasteride tablets along with Rogaine and my ADD medication?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us

Finasteride has no interaction with the medication prescribed by your doctor for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder/ ADD).
Therefore you may safely take finasteride along with your other medication for ADD.
Even though both finasteride and amphetamine + dextroamphetamine (the composition of adderall) are metobolized by hepatic enzymatic pathways but these are distinct and there is no interaction between the two pathways.
Finasteride and minoxidil are approved remedies for androgenetic alopecia in males.
While minoxidil is a non-specific hair growth promoter, finasteride on the other hand is specific inhibitor of the enzyme responsible for converting Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone/ DHT in hair follicle; DHT is the main culprit responsible for follicular miniaturization and hair loss in androgenetic alopecia.
Therefore, both of these when used together give far better results as compared to when minoxidil is used alone.
Finasteride is a prescription product and therefore I suggest that you talk to your doctor for the needful.
