Is It Possible To Have Infection In Toe Due To Nail Puncture Because There Is Pain And Swelling In That Area ?

I stepped on a nail 4 days ago. The puncture wound was on the joint of my big toe . I have no pain at the location anymore but now it is very painful on the arch of that foot and ankle which is also swollen. Is it possible that an infection is present from the nail puncture and it is spreading?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Very possible. Show an Orthopaedic surgeon immedietly for blood tests, Xrays, etc to rule out spreading sepsis, however small. You may need a operation to clean out the wound & wah the joint, along with a course of Antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, etc.

Dentist Dr. Latif's  Response
hi, infection and injury due to foreign body like nails can spread many infections in the body like hepatitis,b,c, hiv, . this can be a cause of communicable diseases spread if the nail is infected. go for immediate check up of the wound and follow the surgeon directions regarding this issue. you will have to use antibiotics, analgesics for this problem. regards.
