Is It Possible To Have Bruised Ribs Without Bruises On Skin Post A Fall?

Last night I fell in the shower. I want to know if I could have bruised my ribs without having a bruise on the skin.I m having a lot of pain on my side that I fell on and I have a huge area of broken blood vessels on the back of my thigh. And pain from my neck to my knees should I go to the ER or wait and see my doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that you have injured your rib too. I recommend that you visit the ER and get a chest x-ray to rule out fractured ribs. A fractured rib could result in puncturing the pleural sac surrounding the lung and lead to some serious condition called pneumothorax.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ahmad Nazzal
