Is It Possible To Get Rabies After Being Scratched By A Domestic Puppy?

Hi, I was scratched by my puppy almost 3 weeks ago on my hand while we were playing. My puppy is 10 weeks old and have never been vaccinated before and before he bit me, I have him isolated already since he has mange . I never think of getting anti rabies as it was a very small scratch. Though yesterday, i suddenly felt sick but my temparature is normal. I vomitted twice now and i feel nauseous. Is it possible that i have rabies? I never see any changes on my puppy though, he's eating, drinking water and playing like he normally does.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Rabies is not a common infection though dogs are one of the possible vectors of this infection.

The most common reason for acute onset of nausea and vomiting is an infection of the gastrointestinal tract. Viral infections are more common than bacterial and they tend to last a few days only.

Though rabies is not a common cause, you should still consider having the dog vaccinated.

I hope this helps
