Is It Ok To Stop Taking Coumadin As While Taking Cortisone Shot?
ISIT OK TO STOP TAKING MY CUMIDAN FOR ONE WEEK AS I WILLBE HAVINGA 3RD CORTIZONESHOT IN MY LOWER BACK FOR BACK ACHES . I HAVE ATRIAL FIB AND AM 82 YEARS OLD.ALSO AM A DIABETIC. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY BLOOOD WILL GET THICKER IN A WEEK AND I N COULD POSSIBLY HAVE A HEART ATTACK. MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR HAS ORDERED THIS .I HAVE ALREADY HAD 3 SHOTS FROM THE SAME DOCTOR TO NO NAVAIL ! THE FIRST ONE THE DOCTOR PUT N THE WRONG PLACE( I WAS TOLD THATS WHY IT DIDNT DO ME ANY GOOD) THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE.
you can't stop anticoagulation because you risk having a stroke or other embolic events. Although such events are not very common the risk is much higher when you don't take the drug. Using corticosteroids increases your risk for gastrointestinal side effects.
Using either ranitidine or omeprazole will reduce the risk for gastrointestinal complications, if you don't use them already. Remember to ask your doctor before you use any drugs. Some patients may have contraindications for certain medications.
So in conclusion, stopping the anticoagulant is not recommended. Other measures have to be taken to improve the safety of treatment.
