Is It Ok To Drink Ginger-ale For Constipation?

is ginger-ale ok to drink when one is constipated? my son is 10 and he has been severely backed up for 2months with what seems like no end in sight. he is on a miralax regimen and I have altered his food intake some. this is interfering with school as he has missed 2 months of it due to waking up in severe pain/discomfort. I am at my whits end and am very frustrated because all that comes out is watery when he has a bowel movement. so whatever blockage he has does NOT seem to be improving. and yes, xrays have shown he is completely packed in his intestines. Please advise ASAP

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 10 year old son having severe pain in abdomen in the morning, watery stools, missing school, X-ray showing completely packed in his intestines.
I would advise you the following:
Miralax regimen is not working.
Saline and soap water enema in the conventional way is the only solution.
Arrange for one and he may be fine and then only Miralax will help.
He should then be investigated if the problem recurs.
Colonoscopy with biopsy.
Blood tests particularly for sugar and thyroid functions.
Opinion of a Pediatric Surgeon and/or Gastroenterologist will help further .
I find this answer helpful
