Is It Normal To Have Urine Leakage After Turp Procedure?
Hi,Dr.
i have had a turp procedure done 5 weeks ago and i have a nagging problem of leakage of urine,It is quite embarrassing and frustrating as i have to wear a pad,Is this normal? How much longer will it continue.I have been prescribed Vesicare tablets. Please advise. Thank You.
Hello Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone surgery of TURP 5 weeks ago for enlarged prostate and now have leakage of urine (Incontinence).
It is likely to be due to thermal injury to the sphincter Urethra a muscle that controls the urination .
Normally this gets cured within month but may take longer time in some patients.
Taking drugs like Oxybutinine and doing pelvic perineal exercises will help to strengthen the sphincter urethra. to achieve control over urination.
