Is It Normal To Have Swelling And Stiffness In Neck After An EMG Test?

I had a emg test done today around 11:00 est and when doing the needle test none of them hurt me in either arm. well the doctor looked at me and said i need to do your neck. at first i thought he was crazy but then i could tell he was sincere. well he went from right to left 4 times. well on the last one he stuck me in the left side of my neck above the bottom one prior. IT HURT!!!!! none prior to this hurt me at all even including my arms. the 3 others he done on my neck didn't hurt but i had a tremendous about of pressure to my head but now the very last one he done on my neck nearly brought me off of the table. immediately after pulling the needle out i had a knot the size of a golf ball on the back of my neck! he said it was ok and normal. well then here it is 5:00 est and now the left side of my neck is swollen going down to my left shoulder. the left side of my face and left ear feel funny and my neck is STIFF! my question is, IS THIS NORMAL!!!

Some amount of swelling can occur because of collection of blood specially when needle puncture any small vessel. but in your case as you are saying that swelling is on your face,ear also, i would recommend you to show to your doctor once again. Some time it can be allergic reaction to antiseptic solution doctorused to clin skin before putting needle.
