Is It Normal To Have Pain And Discomfort Couple Of Weeks Post Root Canal Treatment?

Hi Dr. I had a root canal done on tooth #19 two weeks ago. I'm still experiencing pain and discomfort. Is this normal,? Also for the last 6 days I've been awakened to severe chest pain in the center of my chest. Could this be in correlation to the root canal? I'm taking antibiotics and steroids that my endodontist prescribed 3 days ago when I called back with pain and discomfort. I read that the infection could spread to the bloodstream and be extremely dangerous? Please help.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you had root canal two weeks ago and now you experiencing pain in that tooth as well as pain in chest . This is very common to have pain a few days after root canal . This pain occur due to infection , which left under the tooth even after the root canal .

This infection sometimes travel in the blood stream to various part of the body including heart (as you also mention in query ) and irritates the heart and sometimes cause congestive heart failure.

So i would suggest you to consult dentist as well as cardiologist for proper examination and rule out reason other then dental infection . cardiologist may increase the dose and times period of antibiotics course along with other medicines .

Dentist may do root canal again or extract the tooth depending upon the extent of infection.
