Is It Normal To Have Numbness On The Area Of Infection Due To Shingles?

Hi, I was diagnosed with shingles on May 23rd. I was not prescribed anything, no anti-virals, pain meds cream or anything. My shingles outbreak is on my back with the pain radiating to my belly button. My outbreak was very severe and I ended up getting an infection. After severe pain the infection seems to have cleared but I now have a strange numbness in my back along with the burning and tingling sensation. I am concerned that I may have suffered severe nerve damage due to the infection. Is this normal

Hi.
As per your case history you are having post herpetic neuralgia.
My treatment advice is -
1. Apply a lignocaine gel twice daily on affected skin.
2. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
3. Take a vitamin b12 supplement once daily for 3 months.
4. Other treatment options are oral gabapentin, injectable vitamin b12 given only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
