Hello again, Ive been having bad anxiety for almost 2 months now and I had about 2 big panic attacks where I had to goto the hospital and I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks but I couldnt control it anymore. So they perscribed me lorazepam to take for the anxiety. I sometimes feel like im not breathing properly or Im always hearing my hart beat I know its a silly question but is it normal? And because i worry about it, its hard for me to sleep and I wake up feeling anxious again and the medicine seems to help me but im only take 0.5 lorazepam twice daily and 1mg of lorazepam really helped me

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have anxiety and panic disorder since last 2 months and are not able to control these symptoms by own. You are advised to take Lorazepam 1 mg per day. Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine drug and the drug can help to control the symptoms of anxiety and panic but it cant treat the anxiety. Also you should take the drug on SOS basis and not on regular basis because the is known to cause tolerance and it has abuse potential. If even with lorazepam your symptoms persist consult your psychiatrist again.

SSRIs especially Sertraline, Escitalopram are commonly used drugs in anxiety and panic attacks. These drugs help to reduce the frequency of panic and don't cause dependence. For symptoms control Lorazepam is fine.

For symptom control you should try relaxation exercises along with Behaviour therapy. This will help to supplement the actions of drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
