Is It Normal To Have A Swollen And A Numb Thumb After Stiches?
I cut my thumb on Sunday in the upper section from one side of my fingernail around to the middle. Urgent Care doc gave me 6 small stitches. It appears to be healing but I can barely bend it at all and it is very swollen/hard/and feels a little numb. Is this normal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
hi thanks for writting to HCM we have nerve(digital) supply to our finger and thumb from sides.therefore when injury occurs and if it is deep seated then it can damage the nerve which are responsible for sensation. similarly, there are tendons which makes movement possible at thumb/finger.they are found at the front and back .So,on injury to tendons movement are lost.my advice would be just discuss with the treating doctor to know about tendon and digital nerve status. take care and wishing you good health
