Is It Normal To Have A Resting Heart Rate Of 115 Bpm?

Is a resting heart rate of 115 bad? And also, my wife and I went to an e.r. a few days ago because she had some bad stomach pain and she is pregnant and these doctors wanted to prep her for surgery for her appendix without knowing for sure that was what was wrong with her, is that typical procedure?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

A resting heart rate of 115 is not normal. The normal range is 60 to 100. It can increase during activity or exercise.
During illness or fever, the heart rate would increase. It can also occur in response to some medications.

If your heart rate is this high then it would be best to see the doctor for assessment. This would normally include physical examination, ECG and blood tests (complete blood count and thyroid function test)

In terms of the surgery, if the pain was severe and located in the area where the appendicitis would present then surgery is done to confirm and treat.

I hope this helps
