Is It Normal To Experience Abdominal Pain When Having Mirena IUD?

Hi. I have had the Merina IUD for two years now. For the past 2 months shortly before I get my period (lasts about a day). I have had severe upper abdominal pain and my right lymph node on my neck is painful to the touch. This goes away when my period starts, but is this pain normal for the IUD?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The pain could be related to a hormonal imbalance or a local infection. For this reason, I recommend performing an abdominal ultrasound, a vaginal discharge bacterial culture and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ERS).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
