Is It Natural To Feel Heaviness In Lungs During Workouts With Ongoing Perimenopause?
Don t know if I m being paranoid ... I m not overweight, 48, got a clean bill of health following stress test 2 years ago, an endurance athlete running 8-20 miles so I exercise more than the average person. Female. Have a family history of heart disease. But last checkup bloodwork 2 years ago was perfect. Missed checkup last year and after a brief hiatus (recommended by coach to take a break from training & due to minor injury). But just came from gym session with light weights and some cardio, was out of breath and sweating a lot. Might be normal and I m getting older? No pain in chest but felt heavy in lungs. I had fibroids and going through perimenopause and understand I might be experiencing symptoms of perimenopause?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Heaviness in lungs is not a feature of menopause or peri-menopause. Heaviness in lungs or more appropriately heaviness in chest can be due to some gastrointestinal tract problem like esophageal problem or some problem with digestion. Cardiac problems can also cause chest heaviness. Although you have had cardiac check up and it turned out to be normal, still I would suggest you to consult a cardiologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations. Menopause is characterised by hormonal changes in the body. Symptoms of menopause can include mood alterations, hot flushes etc but heaviness of chest is unlikely to be associated with menopause. I suggest you to consult a physician for clinical assessment of chest with appropriate investigations.
