Is It Correct To Hold The Baby Upside Down, If The Food Is Struck?
Hi my daughter has a six month old baby and was asking me what to do if piece of say....banana or somesuch got stuck in her throat and couldn't breathe, I said to pick her up by the ankles and hold her upside down to dislodge the item, is this correct?
I went through your details. When food is stuck in a babies’ throat, he or she is probably unable to breathe and it is therefore very important to remove the item as quickly as possible. This is one of the reasons that it’s so important to never leave a baby unattended while they are eating, even once they are a toddler. If you see the food, and you can retrieve it without forcing it further down their throat or by cutting off their oxygen supply, do so right away. Now you should not try to give rescue breathing. Immediately you should call for medical help.
As a first aid measure, the toddler can be held upside down and firmly pat the child's back blow the neck and upper chest three or four times. See the food particles to come out. If not please rush the child to a hospital or to a nearby health center.
