Hi welcome to HCM.You have not mentioned your wife's age and body weight and whether the level is fasting or post meal. Bigomet or metformin is the best starting medicine for a diabetic who is of normal weight or obese but not if she is thin. Metformin brings down body weight, reduces appetite, and corrects metabolic syndrome(insulin resistance, high BP, high triglycerides, overweight) that is the cause of diabetes in Type -2 cases. However it does lead to gastric irritation, B-12 deficiency and magnesium deficiency. Hope this answers your query. Best wishes.
