Is It Advisable To Take Methyldopa Instead Of Lisinipril?

I was taking Methyldopa and had no issues with that drug. Once my doctor took me off that and put me on Lisinipril my nose stuffs up and closes completely on both sides so I have to use nasal spray Affrin which raises BP. Nose runs, then stuffs up, sinus pain and dry cough. I take 10mg two times per day. Height 5 6 weight 139 pounds (all muscle) could this be the Lisinipril and is it ok to go back on Metyldopa?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to HCM!
I appreciate your concern for the safety of Lisinopril in the treatment of high BP.
Age and gender not mentioned.

Well, the common side effects of Lisinopril are: Dry cough, swelling of the lips or nasal congestion and hypotension ( which is seen only during first few weeks of treatment).

Consult your doctor because you have developed the side effects to Lisinopril. The best option for you will be to use Losartan which has almost same efficacy but least likely to cause dry cough, swelling of the lips or nasal stuffiness. Other option can be Methyldopa if you are comfortable with it.

Hope your doubt has been clarified.
Take care of your health.
Best regards!
