Is It Advisable To Abruptly Shift From Dianette To Yasmin?

Hi I ve been taking dianette for 5 years for acne and the past year have taken the strips back to back to prevent worsening my anaemia by bleeding. Recently my dianette has been causing me stomach upsets and diarrhoea as soon as I take it so I have been prescribed Yasmin. I am 6 days into a new strip of dianette but quite impatient to commence Yasmin. Can I start it right away (as I will be taking back to back) or do I need to finish the dianette strip?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Dianette contains both cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sex and in the treatment of various menstruation problems. On the other hand, Yasmin contains both ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone that is also used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses.

When switching between hormonal oral contraceptive pills, anyone can go straight from one pill type to another with no gap or placebo pills in between and she doesn't need to finish or complete her old pack. So you can start to take Yasmin after stop taking Dianette at any time and you also don't need to complete the new pack of Dianette.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
