Hello,
The injection is prescribed whenever any deficiency of hormone is suspected to help maintain the pregnancy. It is safe to use. As far as the need of the injection goes, your doctor is the better judge. It is an injection of human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone naturally secreted by the corpus luteum during early pregnancy and helps to maintain the pregnancy through progesterone release until the placenta takes over this function. Hope you find this information helpful. Take care.
