Is It OK To Have Sulfamethoxazole For Recurrent Bladder Infection During Pregnancy ?

Hi, My wife is 21 week pregnant and she has been on keflex for two times (1 week each time / 4x500mg a day) for asymptomatic infection. Her recent urine culture showed e-coli 50k-100k colonies/ML and her doctor want to put her on Sulfamethoxazole this time. Is it safe for the baby to take this much antibiotics? and what causes these infections? shouldn t she be checked for other problems rather than just treating the bacteria? Thank you

Hi,
Thanks for query,
We should avoid giving more antibiotic but at the same time we can not ignore the infection at this time.
We are not treating empirically but there are specific findings are there.
Give Vitamin supplements along with anti biotic.
Take plenty of water
ok and bye.
