Is Inhaling Spray Paint Fumes A Cause For Concern?

I painted my basement floors in polyurethane today. I didn't realize the fumes were toxic. It's 9at night and my 1, 5, and 8 year old are sleeping but im concerned about staying here with these fumes.... I have all the windows open and the heater cranked to keep temp.. Should I be concerned or will they be OK?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your basement floors are painted today in polyurethane which is toxic. There are several potentially harmful substances in paints, depending on the type of paint being used. The most well-known toxic substances in paint are volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs.(volatile organic compound) , which are actually responsible for ill health . I would suggest you to open windows and keep on inhaling fresh air. If any symptoms occurs consult doctor without any delay , because condition sometimes become complicated.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
