Is Infusion Of Methotrexate And Plaquenil Advisable For Dermatomyositis Rashes?

I am being treated for dermatomyositis. My first symptoms, rash, appeared a bit over a year ago. I was told by one derm dr it was eczema after months of his treatments it just kept getting worse. I then went to my current derm dr and he correctly diagnosed me. I am on plaquenil and methotrexate . My rash has gotten better my muscle tests are normal. My dr now wants to treat me by infusion is this a better treatment? Will if help get over this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Provided oral doses of Methotrexate & Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine)are giving a good clinical response, there are no supportive extraordinary data that intravenous infusion will serve better than oral doses on a maintenance basis.

Yes during an acute flare-up infusion does help a bit more above oral one.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
