Is Increased Epithelial Cells In Blood Test Normal During Pregnancy?

My wife is 25 weeks pregnant and I just got my wife's urinary analysis report and found that the epitheleal cells count is shown as 8-10 (while reference count is 1-2) Is it normal to have these Epitheleal cells or is there any thing to worry and get some medication done? Thanks

Hi,
Don't worry. There is nothing wrong. The presence of epithelial cells in urine is due to shedding of old epithelial cells from the urinary tract. It is normal to have these cells. The presence of excess number of epithelial cells suggests that the urine sample is contaminated (from cells from external urethra and external genital mucous membrane including labia minora ) and it is not collected properly,

As long as there are no bacteria, excess white or red blood cells suggestive of infection, you should not worry.
I hope I have answered to your satisfaction.
