Is Heterogeneous Thickened Endometrium Revealed In An Ultrasound A Sign Of Cancer?
Hi: I am 70 years of age and had an ultrasound done of uterus and ovaries because of lower abdominal discomfort. Results: Heterogeneous Thickened Endometrium. My doctor said I had to make an appt. with my gynecologist asap. and he would fax the results to her tonight. He also made a quick mention of the possibility that it might be a little bit of cancer. Should I be worried ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The discomfort and bleeding in postmenopausal age need to be concerned. An ultrasound saying that there is thickened endometrium.
My suggestion is to consult the gynecologist without delay and have the Dilation and curettage (D&C) test done. With that report, your gynecologist will decide further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Siddartha
