Is Hernia Be Attached To The Esophagus?

i was told that i have weak espohagus muscles and a very small hernia and i also have had gerd for several years. i am treated for gerd but now i am having swallowing . my question is this can a hernia be attached to the espohagus or is it strictly abdomen.?

Hiatal hernia means that stomach is protruding into thoracal cavity through diaphargm so it isnt strictly in abdomen. Also it may or may not be attached to esophagus. The best way to evaluate this would be if you do barium swallov test or ct scan. Larger hernias shold be treated surgically while smaller ones can be controlled with medications.
