Is glucose helpful to gain weight in pregnancy?

My wife now 33 weeks pregnant. But her weight gain is not up to the mark. Her age is now 29 and she gains weight about 5 kg during pregnancy. Somebody suggest her to take Glucose would be better to gain weight for baby. I want to know whether this is ok or any contradiction is there.

Instead of giving only glucose please give her adiet rich in protein like dals eggs mutton milk etc.Also she should take her food on time,plenty of fruits and green vege.
