Is Flying Safe While Suffering From Pleurisy?

I am away on business and have had a sever cough for about 4 weeks. I have double ear infection and sinus infection as well. I wound up in Emergency clinic last night due to severe pain in lower right ribcage. The coughing is merciless. They gave me a shot of steriod, Albuterol breathing treatment, took me off of Amoxicillin and gave me Levofloxacin, Benzonatate for coughing during day and virtussin for night cough as well as inhaler (Albuterol) The xray indicated I had Pleurisy. I need to get home. Can I fly with Pleurisy? I don t want the pressure to create further complications. My husband had it and the sak burst. I am concerned about that happening due to flight pressure. My pulmonary doctor hasn t called me back, but I am trying to make travel arrangements home. Thank you, Jen Moran

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Travelling by air should not worsen your pleurisy. All the medication given will take care of infection which should settle in a weeks time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
