I am a healthy 45 year old male that recently (6 weeks agao) sufferred a ruptured ear drum during a plane flight. A loud painful explosion in the right ear follwed by hours and days of intense pain. Medical treatment followed but since then I have suffered very bad tinnitus, as well as occassional bouts of total deafness, stabbing pains and crackling in the right ear. I lost blood out of the ear for up to 3 weeks after the incident. QUESTION: Will I be more susceptable to ear issues when flying in the future.... I am a FIFO worker and need to know so I can start thinking about alternatives.
Hi. Thanks for your information. Read and understood your concerns about the perforated eardrum. You have suffered the ruptured of the eardrum during a plane flight. Painful explosion followed by intense pain, medical treatment underway, still bad tinnitus. Your QUESTION: Will I be more susceptable to ear issues when flying in the future. Since the eardrum is ruptured, the impact of the air travel will be least. If you take proper precautions, the problems will be minimal. Consult and talk to your ENT Surgeon about this and you will be well guided as per the clinical evaluation and the investigations .
