Is finding the infection site so difficult?

hello doctor,
my mother has stage 3/4 heartfailure, she is 54 years old. in the past few months her crp levels are very high 60plus but the docs say they dont want to treat it until they know the infection site they have done many ct and mri scans aswell as blood cultures but they havent found teh site. just recently they done a toe aswell but still cant find the infection site. by the way the blood cultures come back negative.
now my mothers spleen has enlarged. what is going on and why dont the doctors just administer antibiotic even if they dont know the infection site

ps my mother had a crt d installed 6 months ago but in the toe the docs dont think that the pacemakers leads are infected
help plz

Treatment/Therapy ,
Lab Tests ,
Cardiologist 's  Response
in case if the pace maker leads were infected her tlc /dlc counts would have increased
her blood culture and sensitivity test must have been positive for bacteria
any infection in body is frequently associated with rise in body temp(pyrexia) as you is a patient of chf on icd
prophylactic antibiotic therapy can be given for 5 days
tab ceftum 500 twice daily
tab linid 600 twice daily
crp is an indicator of infection but its a very old test and a non specific marker of infection
as her spleen has increased in size now i would suggest you to go for
a repeat
a serum procalcitonin (a very specific test for indicating infection)
blood r m
blood c n s
esr
tlc
dlc
cbc
urine r n m

a combined analysis of these tests can be helpul in reaching a conclusion

I searched about antibiotics for toddlers and this is what i ve found from netdoctor site... inflammation of the middle ear...it is often difficult to distinguish between bacterial and viral infections. In most cases of middle ear infection, antibiotics have been shown to be of little benefit. I am worried as this is the first time my 1 year old daughter will take antiobitic (suprax) at least 3 1/2 ml once a day for 10 days. Please let me know of your opinion. Many thanks.

I have been having a series (at least 6) of eye infections since having a cataract operation in April of 2010 by a doctor in Penticton. I moved to Vernon in 2013. I am finding it impossible to get past his receptionist and get an appointment so the doctor can view my eye why it is still inflamed. This may be because his receptionist is playing games because I forgot to cancel an appointment some time ago when antibiotics had already cleared up the problem due to the long period I had to wait for an appointment. Details of my experience are recorded on the ratemds site. Is there an official body to which I can register a formal complaint? I am in B.C. Canada

My urine has a slight fishy odor...I know that there may be an infection because I have a strong urgency to go when I have to go... I have been taking neem tea, garlic pills and echinacea which help but I find that it has been a week and I am not completely clear..If too much time goes by without eliminating it starts happening again...I am a teacher and need to have this completely cleared up. I know I was drinking enough fluids but now. Is it possible that drinking green tea everyday is the culprit? Could diet be causing the odor of the urine?

Hello, I had an abnormal ECG-ST & T segment downsloping in 2-3 aVF, V4-V-6. The doctor said it looked worse than the one I had 6 monthes prior. So, I was sent for an Echo Stress test- Results: Excellent exercise capacity 13.9 METS- QRS pattern in lead V1-V-2. Approximately 1-1.5 further inferolateral ST depression over the resting abnormality. No arrhythmia. It stated Otherwise, normal echo. No indication of exercise induced ischemia, or septal infarction. I worry about this everyday. Should I have further testing, my cardiologist said to see him again in 2 years. F-49 yrs. Thank-you.

I am 59 yr female, had adnormal ekg by insurance co at home then followed up with pcp and it came back adnormal, also. Referred to Cardio guy and he did a echo and nuclear stress test which said both test were good. I work out about 5-6 days a week and have at 58-60 pulse rate resting. The cardio said the ekg did show some adnormalities but not to be concernce with. I had a heart work up about 3 yrs ago with same cardio and it was good also, they checked the last one in compairson and the ekg there also show some adnormals in it-- nothing to worry with. Still wondering why my ekg is showing adnormal all the way around. Is there any thing to be concerened with. I talke high blood pressure linsiporl 20 m 1 @day. my blood pressure was 117/75 at time of echo and for the stress test started out high at 140 over 80 the 1st number got up to 178 and the bottom went down to 77.... ??????
