Is Fever And Headaches A Fatal Case If The Person Survives The Dog Bite

Hi, i have a co-worker that was bitten by his puppy seven days ago, he is 36 yrs old, weighing 79 kgs. He stands at 5 feet 4 inches. He was not able to seek medical treatment due to financial reason but he said that he washed the wound and let it bleed for more or less 30 minutes while washing it using detergent soap. Right now he is complaining of head ache and slight fever. The puppy remains alive as of present time but he observed that it became depressed and no appetite when eating. Is the symptom of head ache and fever including the condition of the puppy a confirmed indication of rabies? Is this a fatal case. I would appreciate it very much if you can give me your opinion. Thank you very much.

Hello,

His all symptoms seems like Rabies. Rabies is almost fatal. The virus is usually transmitted by a bite from infected animal, rabies can sometimes be prevented if he gets treatment quickly. A biting animal that's caught can be tested to see the virus is in its brain, but it must be euthanised first. If it healthy pet, watch the pet for 10 days too see if it gets sick.

For the treatment:
- Rabies immune globulin: this provides protection right away while the vaccine starts working.
- Rabies vaccine this is given as a series of four dosses, on days 0, 3, 7, and 14 day 0 is the day of first dose AFTER prescription.
Take him to a doctor as soon as possible. People with a weekend immune system get an extra dose on day 28.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
