General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Severe constipation in a 4-week old infant can be indicative of neurological cause as Hirshprung`s disease where Myenteric plexus fails to develop in the rectum and secondary dilatation of large bowel including the sigmoid and descending colon.

A diagnostic colonoscopy with the flexible scope and contrast CT scan is best alternatives of diagnostic approach further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
