Is Facial Edema Suggestive Of Progressing Liver Disease?

My brother had a liver transplant 10 yrs ago. He currently gets his abdomen drained (5.8 liters two days ago) every 3 weeks. He now has systemic edema also, legs, arms, and now even his face. Is the facial edema a sign of the liver disease becoming significantly progressed? His face is already quite swollen and he was just drained weds am.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, yes it is a sign or worsening liver and probably associated kidney failure as well. Does he have any bleeding problem? Breathing difficulty? Heart failure can also be caused by chronic liver disease. Please consult his treating doctor to check for heart, kidney, liver function & electrolyte, hemoglobin, protein levels. Hope this helps. Pls thank me if satisfied
