Is Excisional Biopsy A Matter Of Concern?

42 YO MALE 5 6 168 pounds..Going to see a surgeon regarding an excisional biopsy..Had an Ultrasound that was inconclusive..Bloodwork was normal...an MRI which my Primary consulted with the radiologist and an ENT who recommended next best steps as an excisional biopsy...What is the Likelihood of anything serious?? If the surgeon suggests another form of biopsy should I stand firm on the excisional which all the reading I have done appears to be the most definitive.

It is hard to say absolutely without knowing what you are having an excisional biopsy of (although I suspect some kind of head or neck lesion). However, if an MRI was done and an ENT is recommending an excisional biopsy, then it is potentially serious. An excisional biopsy removes the whole mass and then it's checked for cancer. If is does turn out to be cancer, the excisional biopsy may also be the cure. If it's benign, that's great. Stand firm on the excisional biopsy. Hope this answers your query.
