Is Excessive Drooling A Symptom Of Bell S Palsy?

I m experiencing a very strange phenomena: along both sides of my mouth it feels as if saliva is running down both sides. When I check at times there is nothing there at others there is a small amounts of saliva especially on the left side. My father had Bells Palsy around my current age of 57 so I m hoping this is not early signs of that. No symptoms at the eyes or nose. Also I play tennis and have a ganglion cyst. It is not painful but it is growing. Should it be aspirated or should I try anti inflammatory meds first?

Hi,

In case of Bell's Palsy there is dropping of the side of face with lack of control which is the cause of drooling of saliva.
Also there is difficulty in closing the eye on the affected side.
It occurs due to disturbances related to seventh cranial nerve known as Facial Nerve, that suppliesmuscles of face..
It can be due to compression of nerve with any major artery or at times tumor formation compressing the nerve..
Nerve trauma or viral infection can also be a cause..
As seeping saliva from side of the. Lips is not common and can be a sign of any underlying nerve problem.
So I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation
and investigations like MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment will be done accordingly..
Resolution of the cause can help in reversing the symptoms..
The medications that is steroids and antibiotics are appropriate and along with it you should also do
alternate warm and cool compresses and take Vitamin Supplements..
