Is Erectile Dysfunction Due To Colon Resection Surgery And Leakage?
My husband had a colon resection 3 weeks ago. After he was released he developed a small leak and was readmitted for a 5 day course of antibiotics to avoid a colostomy bag.
The problem that we are worried about is that he cannot get an erection. He doesn't even wake up in the morning with one as most men do typically.
Is this a normal side effect from surgery/morphine????
We're worried.....
Hi I understand our concern, If left side of the colon has been operated open/resected then there is every chance that the nerves going to the penis and responsible for erections might haven been interfered with but this tends to improve with time depending on the extent of the operation.
As you have rightly pointed out, it is also possible for the drugs your husband is on might be interfering with erections as is general body weakness after surgery and stress to body and mind and anxiety.
If it has been only three weeks since surgery, please wait until he fully recovers from surgery and then contact an urologist if there is no improvement.
