Is Dizziness Motion & Sickness A Side Effect Of Anesthesia Or Ear Issue?

My husband had surgery to relieve a pinched nerve in his elbow & carpal tunnel on the same arm a week and 2 days ago. They did a nerve block on his arm, gave him a sedative and supposedly used just enough anestesia to put him to sleep. Since the surgery he has been having bouts of dizziness and the feeling of motion sickness. So bad to the point he doesn t feel comfortable driving. Could this still be a side effect of the anestesia or could he be now having an inner ear issue, etc.?

Hi,

Cannot say in his particular case and medications go out of the body pretty fast after surgery and are unlikely to be there the next day. Some sedation after it is due to changes in sleep wake cycle NOT medicine still being there and this is common. Vertigo is not at all common. People might sleep in an odd position if sedated and this can cause ear and sinus issues. There can even be slight aspiration with surgery to do the same. Mostly, it's an ear problem.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
