Hello. My name is Misha. My question is, my mom is 46yrs old. Started last week with confused, talking out her mind, very crazy. So we took her to the e.r. they said dehydration, but they put fluids in, and she is still the same way. Is that early stage of dementia

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dehydration leads to an imbalance in the body electrolyte system & hence altered mental status or reduced mental consciousness. It can be reversed when the NA, K balance of the electrolyte return to normal.

Keep your mom well hydrated, give her ORS, soups, juices & fruits. She should get normal. Her symptoms were because of severe dehydration.

Early symptoms of dementia are memory loss, difficulties in thinking or problem solving, mood changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
