Is Cough Related To High Blood Pressure?

When I get a very bad cough my heart rate resting is 119. I was hospitalized last year with pneumonia and a resting heart beat of 134. My doctor just prescribed something to lower my heart rate. Is this related to high blood pressure? And can this lead to a heart attack? Thank you, Cathy

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magicc

Any infection can cause an increase in heart rate due to metabolic changes due to the infection and any increase in temperature.

Increased heart rate may not necessarily be associated with abnormal blood pressure. Your doctor can check your blood pressure to ensure that it is normal.

There are also other causes of abnormal heart rates and rhythms. Some are associated with increased chance of heart attack.
If your increase is only occurring with infection, there may be no increased risk.

I hope this helps
